Muffins in an Egg Carton

Hello, first off and before I begin gushing about mini muffins, I just want to say how incredibly shocked and overwhelmed I was at the reaction to my last post. Something I didn't mention in it was that one of the things I have been finding scary recently is communicating with people on line. Sometimes I find the pressure of twitter and my blog just a bit too much and even though I know in reality there isn't any pressure at all, I have been having trouble with both of these things. But the loving, kind and thoughtful tweets and comments I got from people has completely renewed my faith that online people can be just as nice and in fact usually nicer than real life people. Now, back to the muffins.

Last Sunday I decided to bake some muffins. I'm doing a baking themed project in my design and technology lessons and it requires me to find as many liquid based recipes as possible. That's obviously not the whole project because that would be the single oddest homework in history, but it is included. I found the recipe for the muffins here and it was the first muffins I've made that had a properly liquid batter. This made them very easy to pour and they were also very yummy. Wow, I can't believe I just said 'liquid batter'. That's pretty extreme...

Anyway I decided to make them mini because, well everything's just better when it's mini, and I cut out the walnuts because my little brothers hate nuts. I'd finished the muffins, they were cooling cool-y on the cooling rack and I began wondering what to do with them now. No one was home and I had a dozen mini muffins and nowhere to take them. Storing and presenting baked goods is one of the bains of my life. No jokes. I hate Tupperware and I can just never figure out what to do with everything I bake!

So, there I was, once again faced with the dilemma of storing my muffins, and then it hit me... AN EGG CARTON! I emptied out the eggs and held my breath, but guess what? The muffins fit! And they looked so cute, in fact they almost looked too cute.

As you can tell I was pretty proud! They didn't stay fresh for that long but they looked so good that it really didn't matter!

I hope everyone is having a lovely day/week/January even though I know that's not exactly possible!

Sunday

Where Have I Been - Take 2.

Hello (blows dust of blog and tries to bring it back to life), if you read my blog regularly you'll know that I haven't updated it in a few weeks. Primarily, yes, this was to do with Christmas which I am still desperately mourning. I found one of my Christmas jumpers the other day and it nearly brought tears to my eyes (I say nearly, I'm not completely crazy!). We had a really lovely Christmas and there were 30 of us for Christmas lunch which was very loud and fun.

If you've read my blog before, especially this post, you will know that for the last few years I haven't been very well. It was all to do with my back and was very complicated and sad and boring but I was essentially ill for nearly three years. In May I had an operation to try and fix things and the amazing and unbelievable news is that the operation worked and I have been getting better ever since. I've started a new school which I love and I feel like I'm making progress. I always said to myself when I was ill that if I ever got better I would be the happiest person in the world, and while I am more happy than I can express, I didn't realise quite how hard the actual 'getting better' part was going to be. I had been locked away in a little bubble for 3 years and everything still feels very new and scary. Sometimes I'll have a week where I feel like everything's so great and then I'll get completely freaked out by taking the tube or my back will start hurting again and I'll feel like nothings changed. But things have changed! Which is why I feel like my blog needs to change as well.

I have always tried to keep my blog pretty un-personal and while I was sick this made sense. I didn't like 'sick me' and my blog was a sort of way of pretending none of it was happening. But now that I'm getting better I think I want to start sharing that more online. I'm still going to be doing a lot of stuff about knitting, Twit-Knit and baking (no matter how much better I get these are all still very important) but maybe also some more things about what I've been up to, things I'm doing to try and make me less scared of the world as well as some more reviews of books and movies. I might even start doing some videos although this does seem incredibly scary! I don't know if anyone even wants to hear this stuff but I think it might be worth a try.

I hope everyone is having a great January. I think people are still working on their Twit-Knit scarves so I'm going to wait a bit before properly finishing it but it's been very fun and exciting and I can't wait to put together all the pictures!

Have a lovely day and a lovely month and hopefully see you (through the internet) very soon!
Scarlett.

My First Interview

Interviewing people is something I've always been very fascinated/very afraid of so when I was asked  to interview Willa Doss, creator of a new teen skincare brand 'Willa' for Get the Gloss I was a mixture of terrified and extremely excited. Little did I know that Willa Doss is only 12! That's right, at the grand old age of 12 Willa has created her own incredibly successful line of face washes, body creams and lip gloss (my favourite, obviously) that has just launched exclusively in Harrods. She was incredibly nice and the interview was no where near as scary as I thought it would be. You can read all about it HERE on Get the Gloss. Happy Sunday, Love Scarlett x

Halloween Baking

With only a few hours left till Halloween (YAY!) I thought I'd share some fun Halloween baking I've been doing recently. First I had to make some Scream Cheese Brownies. I found the recipe on the Betty Crocker website. Like my pumpkin cupcake recipe, this one's also a bit of a cheat as it uses brownie mix, but the results are so awesome that I definitely don't care at all!

Then, to make the brownies EVEN MORE awesome I turned them into Marshmallow ghost brownies using another Betty Crocker method. This is one of the easiest but most effective cake decorating methods I've ever used and I loved how the spooky little brownies turned out. Unfortunately once I'd finished the brownies and left them out on a cake stand for everyone to see, my extremely fat cat Badger came along and decided what he really felt like for dinner, much more than catfood, was 8 little marshmallow ghosts. I think it's safe to say that the ghosts met with a pretty terrifying end. I just hope they gave him scary nightmares to pay for his horrid crime.

I'm going to my first Halloween party in three years tomorrow! Which is pretty scary but also kind of exciting. I'm dressing up as a cat which I KNOW sounds boring but I think I'm gonna make it pretty awesome (hopefully). I'll be doing a round up of all my Halloween posts tomorrow so check back for some fun ideas. In the morning me and a friend are cycling to a shop to buy pumpkins and then coming home to carve them which will be fun/disgusting (I secretly always kinda hate carving pumpkins)

I hope everyone has a very happy Halloween!

Sunday

And so it begins...

As I'm sure most people who read this blog already know, the Twit-Knit Scarf Swap has begun and it is going extremely well so far! When I launched this project I thought we would get maximum 20 people to take part but to my utter surprise and delight we ended up with more than 70 people! It's extremely exciting and I will of course be blogging in much detail about it soon. For now I'm off on holiday to the Philippians (yay!) so I may not be blogging or tweeting as much for the next week. I will, of course, be knitting and we just have to hope they let me take my needles on the plane. Last holiday I knitted all week and then had to leave my needles behind on the flight home. I think it's safe to say there were many tears involved!

Good luck with your knitting and remember to keep using the hashtag #twitknit and keep tweeting the other members of your team!

Lots of Love Scarly.

Pumpkin Time

This week our house has gone pretty pumpkin crazy. I know it might be a tiny bit early to start getting THIS excited about Halloween but in my opinion the longer you can have pumpkins on your steps the better... As well as our pumpkin steps we've all been decorating pumpkins like crazy. My little brother made his pumpin using pins and he has officially named it Jeff. I used my glue gun to make my crazy colourful one which I will of course D.I.Y. soon.

What are you doing for Halloween?
Love Scarlett.

Get The Gloss

Hello! Get the Gloss is an AWESOME new make up and beauty website that launched just a few weeks ago. For anyone who loves make up it's basically a mixture between the best magazine ever written and... the bible? I don't know. I just know it's amazing and already taking up way too much of my time! Anyway the reason I know about Get the Gloss is because a few months ago I was asked to write an article for them. It's called 17-71 and contains a piece by me (17) and a piece by another lovely women named Scarlett (71). The picture on the front page isn't of me which is slightly confusing but please don't let it put you off. I love writing about make up and I hope you like the piece... and even if you don't can you please just pretend you did. You can read it here

Monday

The Renegade Craft Fair

Two weeks ago me and my mum made the long journey from our house to East London to visit the Renegade Craft Fair. Twit-knitter Emma Mitchell had told me all about it as she was selling her beautiful jewelry there and I knew I had to go visit! I don't think my mind has ever come so close to exploding as it did when I stepped inside. It. was. incredible. A whole room filled with dozens of amazing crafty people selling there amazing, creative, crafty things. I thought I was literally going to spend every penny I had but in the end I was so overwhelmed by the experience I couldn't really move! I bought a beautiful tiny leather notebook that had been turned into a necklace and an awesome Iphone case that you could cross stitch onto! It was such an amazing experience and I can't wait for next year! I took tons of photos but these are my favourites.

Happy Monday!

My Final London Fashion Week Diary

My London Fashion Week Diary has officially come to an end which means I can FINALLY get some homework done after staying up the past four nights feverishly clicking through the photos on style.com. I was super nervous before writing these pieces but it's ended up being so much fun and has inspired me to make some new D.I.Y.s inspired by fashion week. Posy is of course a HUGE fan of the poodle that walked in the Mulberry show and as I right this she is sticking a picture of him up on her wall. You can read my last post here.

London Fashion Week Diary Continued...

Here are my Tatler London Fashion Week Diary's for Sunday and Monday. I have written every post so far while wearing pyjamas and slippers but I'm hoping this doesn't come across in the writing...

Back to School

Picture of Teachers Pet Biscuits by Biscuiteers

After a little (okay actually quite big) summer break from blogging I have decided it is most definitely time I come back. I would like to say this was because I felt like there were millions of readers out there just begging for me to start blogging again but in truth my family is just very, very bored of hearing me talk about craft and baking all day and has begged me to to talk to the internet instead.

In less than a week I go back to school. I'm starting a new school and am, of course, terrified! But also very excited, and also pretty terrified. To try to calm my nerves I am spending most of my time planning my back to school outfit, pencil case and knitting a back to school scarf. Because as we all know a perfect garter stitch really is the best way to make friends. Or maybe I imagined that...

Anyway the general message of this post is that I'm going to start blogging again. Which is brilliant for me because I miss it like crazy. And is also good for anyone who stumbles across my blog while googling 'cheesecake strawberries and greys anatomy.'

I hope everyone is having a great summer.
Love Scarlett.

Tuesday

Some Photos from Cornwall

So, I'm back from Cornwall, and I know I said I would blog more while I was there but as you've probably noticed I didn't. I don't know about you but I find it much harder to blog when it's sunny! We had such a lovely time in Cornwall and we were staying the most beautiful place. It was my first time ever visiting the area and I think I may have fallen in love with it. I recently saved up and bought a Lomo LC-A and I took loads of pictures while I was there. They came out pretty nice and I thought I would share a few.

We had an amazing deck outside our house looking straight out into the sea. The weather in our second week there was amazing (although personally I prefer the rain) and it was really nice to just be able to sit on the deck and look out at the sea. Seeing as how I haven't been that mobile the past few weeks it was nice to feel like I could experience the seaside without having to move around too much.

The town nearest to our house was called Fowey and I COMPLETELY fell in love with it. I made my mum take me back there every single day and we would just sit on the dock and look into the water. I've never really had that feeling before where you go somewhere you've never been before and just feel totally at home and I'm definitely going back there soon.

While I was taking photos I experimented with taking a whole roll of film of landscapes, rewinding the film and then taking a whole roll of portraits. The effects were really nice and these two pictures of my brother were my favourites.

I hope everyone's enjoying the Olympics and the typically English weather. I'm not much of a sports fan at all but I'm staying on my own in the country at the moment and must admit I've gotten pretty into it. I might even have to come up with an olympic themed D.I.Y. while I'm here.

Lots of love Scarly xx

Friday

3 Weeks in Cornwall

So tomorrow we leave for 3 weeks in Cornwall, I've never been to Cornwall before and we're staying right by the beach so I'm very excited. This isn't the kind of thing I would normally blog about except I've decided that once we get to Cornwall I'm going to start trying to blog again. Maybe not as regularly as before but I'm definitely going to try to do a bit because I miss it a lot. I've been packing like crazy for the past week and as you can see Badger and Posy have been helping me out. Posy even has her own little tin suitcase with dogs on the front which is so cute it's verging on disgusting. So keep checking back here, if you feel like it, for a bit more crafty action and maybe even some ice lolly recipes.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Swinter (summer but it feels like winter),
Love Scarlett.

Mollie Makes Magazine

Hello! I know I have been incredibly quiet since my last post which trust me has been very sad for me but I think it's definitely been the right thing to do. Anyway I'm starting to dip my toes into the world of the internet once more and I felt like this exciting piece of news simply couldn't go without a blog post!

Mollie Makes Magazine is one of my absoulutly favourite magazines in. the. world. and since I've been stuck in bed so much recently I've downloaded every issue onto my ipad and read them cover to cover. It's the most beautiful, crafty, lovely, heart warming magazine ever made and my mum describes their pictures of people's houses as porn for girls (she's not quite as polite as I am.)

So a couple of weeks ago when I got an email from Mollie Makes asking if I would like to be featured as their twitter 'one to follow' in the summer edition I literally squealed! It looks like the most amazing issue and from what I can see on the front page it has instructions for making the most gorgeous friendship bracelets which is something I cannot wait to do!

Anyway the issue comes into shops today and I've decided that one of my first trips out of the house since the operation is going to be a trip down to the newsagents to buy Mollie Makes!

I hope everyone has a lovely friday and I promise I will be back to blogging soon!

Lots of Love Scarlett.

p.s. With all this free time on my hands I decided to give my blog a total makeover! I'd love to hear what you think about it so please feel free to leave a comment saying weather you think it's a success or one layer of mascara too far!

Thursday

Where Have I Been?

Hello. If you read this blog regularly or follow me on twitter you may have noticed that I haven't tweeted or blogged for about a month and I've also recently stopped writing for Hello Giggles. I'm afraid I'm not ready to come back quite yet but I wanted to briefly explain where I've been and why.

I've previously hinted on this blog that the reason I do so much craft is because I haven't been very well for a couple of years following an operation. At the end of May I had another operation that I am seriously hoping is going to make me much better. It was a horrible operation and I've been having a really tough time since. I'm used to pain but this has really been very hard but I'm still extremely hopeful it's going to work and I'm determined to get through it.

I've become a bit of a pro on convalescing and have been doing lots of things to help myself get through it. Before the operation I bought four new pairs of pyjamas so I am the best dressed invalid in the world! While we were in hospital me and my mum decorated the hospital room with 10 sets of fairy lights and won the award for nicest room. I've watched two whole series of thirtysomething which I LOVE and two series of The Mary Tyler Moore Show which I also love. I've been doing lots of drawing (see the picture of me in my dashing pyjamas above) and cross stitching and knitting which always helps. I'm also making a scrapbook with all my hospital bands, Polaroids of the journey and cards I have received.

So I'm getting through it, but it is hard. I'm still not really ready to talk about it properly and I haven't been able to see anyone apart from my family yet so I have a long way to go until I can start doing this blog properly again. But I promise I will be back, and I hope that when I return you will all start reading what I have to share again. My blog has been the thing that has got me through the past few years, and I can't wait to make it even better when I get back.

In the mean time you can read some of my recipes here.
My craft D.I.Y.s here.
All about my knitting here.
And my Hello Giggles pieces here.

Lots of Love Scarlett.

Sunday

Teen Granny on Tumblr

I've had Tumblr for a while but have only been using it so far for stalking people I like (cough Zooey Deschanel cough) and re-blogging the occasional Jennifer Lawrence snap. But I've been thinking for a while that it would be a good idea to start putting links to posts I do on this blog onto my tumblr. Anyway this weekend I was trying not to revise so decided to finally set it up.

So anyway here it is and if you want to follow me you can HERE. It's not going to be very different from this blog but hopefully it will get a few more Teen Grannys joining in with this online craft-fest. You can also use my tumblr to ask me any crafty or baking questions on your mind!

Happy Sunday.

Tuesday

Women and Home

Hello! Just in case you missed this months Women in Home (how could you have!), I have some very exciting news which is that me, my mum and my granny all wrote articles in this month's issue. It's not a coincidence that we were all featured this month, in fact we were all writing as part of a piece on redefining the goalposts for what is age appropriate.

It's SO exciting to see something I have written in a magazine and even weirder to see a picture of me (even if it is the smallest!) In fact I have been casually leaving the magazine around the house open on page 70 in the hope that someone will read it! But so far I think only Posy has, and she preferred chewing it to actually reading it.

If you do get a chance to pick up a copy of Women and Home and read the articles properly please leave a comment saying what you thought! My piece is all about (surprise surprise) my love of knitting and how it contradicts with the stereotypical views people have of teenagers so hopefully if you are reading this blog and love knitting you will like what I wrote, and if you don't please don't leave a comment!

Have a lovely Tuesday (if that's possible!)
Scarlett
